Villain Hitting 2027: Jingzhe Falls on March 5
Published: October 23, 2026
Jingzhe 2027 — the Awakening of Insects — falls on Friday, March 5, 2027: the single biggest villain-hitting day of the year. Whether you plan to queue under Goose Neck Bridge or swing online, this guide has the dates, the steps, the timing and the taboos.
Jingzhe 2027: Friday, March 5
Jingzhe is where the whole custom began: spring thunder wakes the insects, the White Tiger opens its mouth, and folk tradition answers with tiger sacrifices and villain beating to clear the year's gossip and grudges. In 2027 the day lands on Friday, March 5. By convention Goose Neck Bridge sees its longest queues of the year, with session prices moving from the usual HK$50 to HK$60 on the day (HK$80–100 in the surrounding week), and the star stalls beating five hundred effigies in a day. If you want the peak-day energy without the peak-day queue, the online ritual is the easy answer.
Villain-hitting dates for 2027
Beyond Jingzhe itself, these are the traditional good days through the year:
| Occasion | Date | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Jingzhe day | Friday, March 5, 2027 | Peak of the year — White Tiger's day |
| Monthly good days | 6th, 16th & 26th of each lunar month | "Six" is a yin number — right for dispelling villains |
| Removal Days | See the 2027 almanac (Tong Sing) | Days earmarked for removing — troubles included |
| Any other day | The rest of the year | Sincerity beats timing — the rite runs all year |

The ritual at a glance (eight steps)
- Incense Offering — light the incense, invite the gods to witness.
- Declaration — write the target on the villain paper; a generic "petty person" is safest.
- Villain Beating — twenty slipper strikes until the paper shreds, chanted along: "Beat your little villain head, till you can't catch a breath!" (More in the chant collection.)
- White Tiger — seal the tiger's mouth with pork, feed it the effigy.
- Dispelling — scatter sesame and mung beans: big troubles shrink, small ones vanish.
- Blessing — burn the nobleman paper, invite benefactors in.
- Treasure Burning — gold ingots and joss paper to ash; bad luck goes with them.
- Block Casting — one flat, one round: a sacred pair, and the ritual is complete.

What to watch out for
- Hour: noon (11am–1pm) is best; avoid performing after sunset.
- Place: in person, heavy-sha ground like junctions and flyover undersides (Goose Neck Bridge is the classic); never at home or in the office. Online, the rule does not apply.
- No named targets: keep it generic — "petty person", "troublemaker" — and avoid fresh grudges. Details in Does Villain Hitting Backfire?
- Pregnancy: never target an expecting mother; folklore also advises pregnant women not to take part or watch.
- Afterwards: the shoe is thrown away; the villain paper burns on the spot — nothing goes home with you.
- Date clash: skip days that clash with your own zodiac sign or birth chart.
